 Ph.D. Admission Process

1. Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates who have completed:

1) 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.

• A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time. Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
• Exemption from Entrance

Students who qualify for fellowship/scholarship in UGC-NET/UGC- CSIR NET/GATE/CEED and similar National level tests are exempted from entrance examination but they have to appear for interview

2. Registration on JSPM University Portal: A student must register with valid Email Id and Mobile Number on JSPM university portal.
3. Online Application Form:An online application form must be filled up by specify his / her domain of research, with all relevant information. Then a photograph and signature must be uploaded followed by payment of Research Program Entrance Test fees of (INR). 1000/- and finally submit the application form.
4. Entrance Examination:JSPM University conducts a Research Program entrance examination to evaluate the candidates' subject knowledge, research aptitude, and analytical abilities. The exam consists of multiple-choice questions.
5. Passing Criteria: The minimum passing criteria for the Ph. D. Entrance 2025 examination are as follows: General category candidates must score a minimum of 50% marks, while reserved category candidates must score a minimum of 45% marks.

In addition, candidates must independently pass each paper with a minimum of 40% marks.

6. Interview:Shortlisted candidates will be called for a personal interview or an interaction round. The interview panel assesses the candidate's research aptitude, subject knowledge, and suitability for the Ph. D. program. They may also inquire about the candidate's research proposal and academic background. Exempted students are suppose to appear for interview
7. Merit List and Selection:Based on the performance in the entrance examination and interview, a merit list is prepared. The candidates who meet the minimum qualifying criteria and rank high in the merit list are selected for admission.
8. Provisional Admission:Candidates who are offered admission are usually given a provisional admission letter, which specifies the conditions, if any, that need to be fulfilled before the final admission is confirmed.
9. Confirmation of Admission:Candidates who accept the admission offer and fulfil all the conditions, such as submitting the required documents and paying the admission fees, are granted final admission to the Ph. D. program.
10. Research Proposal:Applicants are typically required to submit a research proposal outlining their intended research area, objectives, methodology, and potential contributions to the field. The proposal is evaluated to assess its feasibility and alignment with the research interests of the institution. This proposal is need to submit at the time of interview.
