The Literati Cell, run by the Department of English, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, JSPM University Pune, organized a debate competition on ‘Should Social Media Platforms be Regulated by the Government to Curb Fake News and Hate
Speech?’, which sparked lively arguments and rebuttals, on 18th September 2025 at 1:30 pm in Seminal Hall, Main Building.

The competition was judged by Mrs. Arpita Kaswa and Mrs. Madhumita Rane, who also encouraged students to actively participate in such insightful events for their overall development. The participants were judged on their argumentation skills, presentation,
and ability to engage with opposing viewpoints. The debate followed a structured format, consisting of opening statements, rebuttals, and concluding arguments. Each participant was timed to ensure a fair and dynamic discussion. An audience Q&A session allowed for further interaction and engagement.

The Winners were:
1. Mr. Raj Shah (LLM, School of Law) bagged the 1st position
2. Mr. Vikas Lalaram Choudhari (SY, School of Law) got the 2nd position
3. Kunal Hemraj Joshi (SY, FEU) got the 3rd position.

The event drew an enthusiastic audience comprising UG, PG students, and faculty members. It was a successful event, fostering critical thinking and public speaking skills among students. Such events are vital for encouraging open dialogue and developing
future leaders. The Literati team looks forward to many more such events which promise to be even more engaging.

The Literati Cell, run by the Department of English, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, JSPM University Pune, organized a street play on anti-ragging on 14th August 2025 at 12:30 pm in front of the C Building and then on the 2 nd day of the
Induction program, Ugam i.e. 19 th August 2025, on the stage. The play, with a runtime of 10 minutes, was a creative effort to raise awareness about the adverse psychological, social, and academic impact of ragging.
The performance featured participation from students across various departments, ranging from BCA to Animation and VFX, as well as PhD scholars, making it an interdisciplinary and collaborative endeavour. Through a series of dramatic acts, dialogues, and symbolic gestures, the play emphasized the harmful consequences of ragging and the need to uphold dignity, empathy, and peer support within the student community.
The event drew an enthusiastic audience comprising UG, PG students, and faculty members. The impactful message of the play resonated with the participants, evoking strong emotional responses and sparking meaningful conversations about inclusivity and
campus safety.
