Guest Lecture on Interrelationship Between Economics and Law- An Analytical Perspective

The Department of Economics, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, JSPM University, Pune, organized a guest lecture titled “Interrelationship Between Economics and Law: An Analytical Perspective” on 28th January 2026 for First Year and Second Year B.A. Economics students. The session was conducted from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the Dean’s Boardroom.

The guest lecture was delivered by Mr. Umesh Jawalikar Sir, Assistant Professor, School of Law, JSPM University, Wagholi, Pune. The session aimed to bridge the conceptual and practical link between Economics and Law by demonstrating how both disciplines function together in shaping markets, institutions, and social order.

“Baatein Ankahee” Stall

Meraki Counselling Cell, JSPM University Pune successfully conducted the mental health awareness activity titled “Baatein Ankahee” on 12th January 2026 across multiple locations on the university campus. The activity was designed as a silent, stall-based initiative to promote mental health awareness, encourage emotional expression, and spread awareness about the availability of free psychological support services offered by Meraki Counselling Cell.

The activity was solely conducted, and led by postgraduate students of M.A. Psychology and M.Sc. Psychology, with active support from Undergraduate Psychology students. The stalls witnessed strong participation throughout the day, and the strength and coordination at each stall were commendable. Students and faculty members of JSPM University Pune responded positively and engaged meaningfully with the initiative. Basic psychological first aid and initial mental health support were provided wherever required, ensuring a safe, empathetic, and supportive environment.

The activity was conducted under the guidance and supervision of the Meraki Counselling Cell team members Ms. Anushree Bose, Ms. Sadeeqah Patel, and Ms. Manasi Babaje, who ensured ethical practice, professionalism, and effective student engagement throughout the event. 

Educational Visit to Saraswat Co-operative Bank

The Department of Economics, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, organized an Educational Visit to Saraswat Co-operative Bank on 27th November 2025 for F.Y and S.Y B.A Economics students as part of experiential learning and practical exposure in banking studies.

Visit to Grampanchayat Office

A field visit to the Grampanchayat Karyalay, Kesanand, Haveli, Pune – 412207 was organised to provide students with practical exposure to the functioning of Local Self-Government. The three-hour visit aimed to bridge classroom concepts with real administrative practices at the grassroots level.

Reimagining Society and Politics in the 21st century: Challenges and Possibilities 

The Department of Political Science organized a Guest Lecture on " Reimagining society and Politics in the 21st century: Challenges and Possibilities " for the undergraduate students of B.A. Political Science. The session aimed to enrich students’ understanding of key political and sociological concepts and contemporary developments beyond the classroom syllabus.

The session was delivered by Mr. Nilesh Sarwade, Asst. Professor, Department of Sociology, JSPM University. The speaker shared valuable insights on Politics and Society, offering both theoretical clarity and practical applications relevant to the Political Science curriculum.

“Mayat” Silver Screen

On September 19th, 2025, the Faculty of Education & Humanities under SPARSH Cell hosted its first-ever shot film screening.

Post screening, a short review regarding the film was taken from the audience in which the audiences enthusiastically spoke about the issues raised in the short film. After which. Ms. Sanika Madamwar from TY BA Psychology came forward to invite  the panelists to the dais for the panel discussion. The panel comprised of Mr. Tipusultan Inamdar (Programme Coordinator, Political Science), Dr. Akruti Bose (Programme Coordinator, Economics), Mr. Mrunal Patnekar (Programme Coordinator, History), Ms. Sadeeqah Patel (Assistant Professor, Psychology), and Mr. Nilesh Sarwade (Assistant Professor, Sociology). Two students from the Faculty of Education and Humanities Ms. Pragati Ray, Ph.D. Scholar from Department of English and Mr. Raj Shah from FY LLM also took part as panelists.  Each panelist brought unique insights from their field, linking the themes of the film “Mayat” to real-world social issues.

Inter-Year Quiz Competition 2025

The Department of Political Science organized an Inter-Year Quiz Competition between the First Year and Second Year students of the B.A. Political Science Programme on 30/09/25. The event aimed to foster healthy academic competition, enhance conceptual understanding of political science, and encourage active student participation in co-curricular learning.

The quiz served as an engaging platform for students to test their knowledge of political theories, the Indian Constitution, current affairs, and democratic institutions.

‘Cinema and Literature: Convergences and Divergence’

The Department of English, Faculty of Education and Humanities organized a guest lecture on the theme “Cinema and Literature: Convergences and Divergences”. The session was delivered by Mr. Makarand Dambhare, a distinguished academic and filmmaker with expertise in film and literary studies.

Documentary Screening of “IN DEEP SHIT”

he Department of Sociology, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, JSPM University, Pune organized a documentary screening titled “In Deep Shit” on 29th August 2025. The event aimed to raise awareness about the plight of manual scavengers in India and sensitize young individuals, particularly students, to issues of caste and social justice.

Through the screening, students gained insights into:

  • The challenges and hardships faced by manual scavengers in India.
  • The socio-economic dynamics of this marginalized community.
  • Constitutional provisions and significant legal measures related to their rights.
  • The socio-cultural perspectives surrounding hygiene-related work in India.
  • The interconnection between the caste system and manual scavenging practices, particularly in Mumbai.

The program was well-received by both students and faculty and was followed by an engaging discussion on various aspects of caste and the conditions of manual scavenging workers in India.

Poverty Simulation: Walking in Their Shoes

The Department of Economics organized an experiential learning activity titled “Poverty Simulation: Walking in Their Shoes” on 29th August 2025.

As part of the preparation, each student had interacted with individuals from low-income groups in their surroundings and conducted guided conversations to understand their socio-economic struggles. On the day of the event, the students narrated the stories of these individuals, presenting a vivid picture of their livelihood, expenses, health challenges, education concerns, and survival strategies.

The narrations highlighted real challenges such as irregular income, lack of access to healthcare, rising cost of living, debt traps, and limited opportunities for upward mobility. The stories were authentic and captured the resilience as well as vulnerabilities of BPL households and low-income group.
